Boston, MA. The Boston Red Sox should just get it over with and fire Bobby Valentine. The fact Valentine hasn’t just quit and walked away is surprising as well. Once the Red Sox traded half their team to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the writing should have been on the wall for Valentine that the season was  over as far as the front office was concerned. When the Red Sox parted ways with Terry Francona last year, the blame game began with rumors of a loss of control in the club house with players eating fried chicken and drinking beer during games. The collapse the Red Sox encountered last year was a sign of more than a problem with the manager, but also with the players.

Bobby Valentine looked like a Hollywood marriage for one of the most storied teams in MLB history. Francona brought a World Series to Boston and was unceremoniously let go. With Valentine’s experience in New York, many thought he was the perfect manager for the team after spending years in the largest press market in the country. As a commentator for ESPN, Valentine was one of the best on TV. He gave excellent insight into the manager’s mind set for many teams and gave fans a look at what strategies were used and was able to give the average fan a glimpse into what manager’s have to deal with. Valentine should have stuck to the studio gig with ESPN.

The Red Sox are 63-75 so far this year and are 14.5 games out of first place in the AL East division, and the same amount of games out of the wild card standings. The front office made a statement about how displeased they are with their record by trading all star Adrian Gonzalez, injured Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett in exchange for James Loney and four prospects. That is a sign they are waving the white flag. The Dodgers became automatic favorites to win the NL West and potentially make it to the World Series. Boston became the AL East doormat only one game ahead of lowly Toronto for last place in the division.
Although it is not Valentine’s fault, it is time for him to go. Red Sox nation is not happy and Valentine was not the key to fixing what ails the Boston Red Sox. The blame should go to the players but someone has to take the blame other than the players and Valentine is the face of the team and should be relieved of his duties as manager.
